SOLACE: In The Waiting Room | A Spiritual Journey – Living with Our Conscience

We decide what is and what is not morally acceptable in our lives. Do my words align with my values? There were times in my life when I felt no one was listening. My voice, was it loud enough? Do they not comprehend? I realize now that my voice didn’t need to be loud enough and that I was understood. Even though their responses were not always what I wanted to hear; however, their reactions were clear.

Recognizing self-centeredness isn’t always easy. Understanding how that behavior affects others and how it affects us from a moral viewpoint takes time. Disregarding spiritual principles and negating how others think and feel is unacceptable. Even though many of us couldn’t care less about how others think, is it okay to overlook our behavior and expect others to comply with our unrealistic expectations? Our friends and family hear what we say, while they watch what we do. Focusing our attention on our actions and motives is best.

Be clear about what your conscience is saying to you. People pleasing is not the answer. Your words will be diminished if you say one thing and do the complete opposite to impress someone. Keep in mind, your word speaks volumes about your character. When conveying your truth seems difficult, pause and consider your words beforehand. Making decisions and choices based on spiritual principles, and our morals and values, makes it easier to communicate in a healthy, safe manner.

Much of what we know about morals and morality comes from family, friends, society, co-workers, religious institutions, social media, and other outside influences. These sources may or may not align with who we are or how we choose to behave. It takes time to know and truly understand oneself. What is healthy for some may not be healthy for others. As we realign our moral compass and tap into spiritual principles and inner guidance, our true values will emerge. When we unlearn what does not serve us in a healthy capacity, we gain the courage to engage confidently with what does.

My need to be heard no longer overshadows the need to be in alignment with my true morals and values. By practicing being truthful with my words, my needs are clearly expressed. To accomplish this, I must first be certain of my moral values and desires within myself. Lastly, make sure all your decisions reflect your values, not those of others. Honestly embrace your truth.
